Service Description
Plenty of people draw a blank when they try their hand at fiction. Let me help you surface the hidden stories that just need the right writing prompt to get you started. I’ve spent three decades in advertising and the core of what we do is “concepting” — where we go off on various tangents of creativity until we find a good place to land. In this one-off workshop, we’ll explore at least three impractical and playful storylines with gusto and craft a gem of a tale with every prompt. Online workshop only via Zoom. Can be a one-on-one workshop or get a friend or five to sign up together and we'll release the creative hounds. We focus on generative writing designed to trigger all-new stories. You'll get gentle, constructive feedback that focuses on what was strong and memorable about your work. And check out the FAQ section learn more about generative writing and our workshop process. Duration: 3 hours Max participants: 6 About Jo: Everyone is, indeed, a writer. I just happened to make a living at it. Starting out as a copywriter at a New York City advertising agency, I eventually reached the role of Executive Creative Director. I’ve mentored and worked alongside teams of writers and art directors as we created print campaigns, websites, Facebook apps, radio and TV spots and more. These days, I telecommute from Sedona, Arizona, and am also an Amherst Writers & Artists Affiliate, certified to lead workshops in the AWA method, as described in Writing Alone & With Others by Pat Schneider, Oxford University Press. To honor the 20th anniversary of 9/11 attack on New York, I published my memoir: I still carry you around: A moment-by-moment account of the week that changed New York City and me forever. cancellation policy
For paid workshops: Each workshop has a limited number of people to ensure that everyone gets time to write, present their work, give feedback and truly develop their craft. Because of that, it's important that people commit to attending. Whether it's an 8-week workshop or a one-day retreat, it's important that we get a solid head count before starting. And for those signing up for a free workshop, please be courteous and notify me if you do not plan to attend so that we can make space for others. For paid workshops, there will be no refunds after two weeks prior to the workshops, unless you find someone to take your place. If you meet those requirements, a full refund will be issued, less a $15 processing fee. No refunds will be issued for missed sessions. For paid consultations/appointments: Clients can reschedule up to 3 days in advance of our meeting. Bookings must be paid for before the session begins, unless a different agreement has been made by both parties. No refunds will be issued for missed appointments.
